What is a thriller?
A thriller film is a film that heavily stimulates the viewer's mood, giving them a
high level of anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty,
surprise, anxiety and terror.
Why is Se7en a thriller?
Se7en is a thriller as is stimulates the viewer, it causes their heart to race as they feel more uncomfortable. This occurs in Se7en as the killer 'John Doe' is treading closet and closer to being caught, a key example of this is the pinnacle scene as 'Mills' played by a young Brad Pitt chases the now nutourios killer through the back streets of New York. This increases the heart rate of viewers as we feel a great sense empathy towards the troubled Mills chases helplessly after the villain. The empathy transforms into instant sympathy as 'Mills' is struck over the head by the evil killer. Leaving a river of blood falling from the eye of 'Mills' shown below.
This particular still image makes the viewer feel sympathy, this creates more tension for the viewer making the plot more complex. increasing the interest of the viewer as they themselves attempt to get into the mind of the killer 'John Doe'.
